1150 with new controller install, but now the smoke it app doesn't work...

The new controller fixEd the 10 degree temp control issue, but now the smoke it app doesn’t work correctly. Example, when I change the temp on my phone the actual unit does not adjust the temp accordingly and the meat probes do not appear to report correctly as well. It seems to work properly using just bluetooth but you need to be so close it’s almost pointless. in the app there is know way to see wifi signal strength but it appears ok on my phone standing beside my bbq. Anyone else having these issues?

The fix for me was to disable Bluetooth. I did some troubleshooting and noticed something was adjusting the temps too low or too high. I set the smoker manually with just controls and it would hold but the temps would move when I used the app. With Wi-Fi only the app will still report temps and allow temp control. BT is not needed. Either turn it off on the phone or block the all from connecting to Bluetooth. I blocked BT from the Smokeit app so I could still use BT with my other temp probes.

Edit: I have the new controller and it works well with BT and WiFi. Temp controller is much better and it stoped jumping up to 350 on its own.

Just replace the controller on my 1600p and same thing happed. Was able to connect to it via BT and setup WIFI, and while I am at work today it just kept on trying to load the grill but nothing showed up. Weird thing was it was notifying me that it hit the set temperature, but still couldn't see anything on the screen.

Will have to wait till i get home to reconnect the grill with the app as I cleared my cache thinking it would hold the grill, but it didn't. Using a Galaxy note 20 ultra

Clear all of the app's data then uninstall. Reinstall the app then delete your old controller. Then add your new grill/controller. This should fix the problem. Did for me anyway. Clearing app data is easy in Android. I don't know how it is done on iOS.

I have to chime in and agree with Mike. I’m on a different smoker but was told and told I had to use the new Smoke It app. And I can promise you nobody tried any harder than me. I spent about four days trying everything under the sun. Like I said different smoker but I’ve noticed similar problems across several models. Long story short after 4 or 5 days testing I’m running the Legacy app. And it is working amazingly well. During that time I did three or four actual cooks. I finally gave up on the new version. I’ve pretty much stopped posting about it. Will leave it at that. Lol. What bothers me right now. Legacy is no longer in the iOS App Store. I’m hoping mine doesn’t update itself like I’ve heard about.

Edchad, I got mine all installed and did a pork butt Sunday. Both blue tooth & wifi were working fine around the house.

That’s great Sparky! When I first got mine I didn’t even intend on using the app. But it sure is nice to be able to control it from my recliner. It’s hot out there! Lol!

Well there’s some confusion there too I guess. Smoke-it Legacy was an updated version of the original. Black interface. Anyway I was told to use the new one. And a lot of others were too. Anyway I could not get it to run. But now Legacy is gone feom Apple store too. Don’t know what’s up.

Whale. Poop. I was hoping for something that would actually work. Guess I'll stick with my SmokeX4. It won't lie to me, at least. I use it on my 820PB and my DLX. So far, it's the easiest way to keep track of things...

I hear ya. I honestly don’t have a clue what they’re doing. I still have Legacy on my iPhone and it pretty much works perfectly. Now I haven’t set up a recipe from it but I wouldn’t use that feature anyway I don’t think. Heck I’ve not used it at the control. To me seems like if I’m changing temps etc at a set time there would be other things going on anyway and I’d be right there. So why bother? Like temp change when wrapping or unwrapping ribs. If the control won’t wrap em I dont want it changing the temps anyway. Lol.

And to be fair there’s been a couple of updates I think on the new one. I guess there’s a possibility it would work on mine. But there’s no way in heck I’m deleting what I got to install the new one. Not with it not available at the App Store no more.
They said all along there would be two. New one Smoke it. Old one Smoke-it Legacy. What’s strange also if you read the info for both the new one says it works specifically for the Lockhart and Combo series.
Mine is neither. And the Legacy says it just works for Pit Boss. Nothing specific like the other.
Besides getting info from a fellow here, I also emailed and also phoned Support. One phone call I was told to use Legacy. That’s about the time I gave up and just stuck with Legacy.
A day after that I got an email from them , get this, apologizing and told me no. To use the new Smoke it version as I didn’t have a Legacy controller. Lol.
Anyway now that this is as clear as mud. And after 44 years in engineering trying to figure crap out. My instinct tells me to use the dam one that works. Lol.
BUT NOW it’s disappeared from the App Store.
I’ve also heard a couple of guys that their app updated to that version by itself. The couple I remember I think they worked.
Right now I’m not changing anything. Praying nothing happens that I need to reinstall it since it is gone. And if it updates to the new one automatically and it doesn’t work perfectly like it does now. Well. That’s when you’re gonna hear some heck raising from me.
I’m an easy going guy. And all through this I’ve been patient and kept a good attitude. I haven’t went off on nobody even when there was people pretty much saying we didn’t know what the crap we were doing.
Right now I’m good. My smoker is good. My app is good.
Dam. Sorry about the rant. It just ticks me that the Legacy is gone. And I’m not the only one this is working for.

It's all good. I'm the same way. I'll play nice as long as I can. I've pretty much quit using the app entirely. I rely on my SmokeX4 for all my info. I can't use the PB probes in the app, because they won't hold the temps I set for them. There's really no reason to use it except maybe to turn the grill off if I happen to forget when I'm unloading it. It's a pain to open, and if my phone goes to sleep I have to open it again to see anything. It's a nice idea, on paper. I understand about the engineering part too. I've been a welding/mechanical engineer for 25 years myself. But you know how those "broad-bottom engineer" types are. If it works on paper, it'll work in real time. I've proven many of them wrong in my career.

I tried the new app again last weekend, three more attempts and it will not run. It keeps shutting down when I touch the + sign to add my grill. Deleted it.
So I re-installed the legacy app and it works as far as monitoring the temp. But it is out of sync with the grills new controller.
If say I set the temperature to 240* on the grill the app says it is set to 225* it does show the correct ACT temperature.
So the app for me is only good to check the ACT temperature. I could not find any way to update the app or anything in the settings.
The only setting is to turn on or off the notifications.
