I recently purchased a KC Combo floor model from Walmart, the ash tray does not appear to belong to this model. Has anyone else had any problems with ash tray? It's hard to get in and out and if you slide it in to sit in the can, there is about 3 inches sticking out in front of the grill. Support has sent new trays, 1 was completely wrong and the last they sent me is like the one I have- any ideas?

As you have discovered the issue is not with the tray. The issue is with the slide tray fastener. There is thin piece of metal protruding down on each side under the ash catch pot and the ashtray must pass between the bottom of the ash pot and on top of that metal plate.
Not much room for the tray to be off track and produce what you have described.

Even when inserted into the slides on the can it still has to be bumped to get it in place and then there is an issue with the tray, if I align the ash tray with the can, the front of the tray sticks out about 3 inches in front of the grill, if I push it all the way in, then the pellet tray is beyond the can. The tray has a release built into the front of the handle, indicating that the handle should go in far enough to latch on something. Check out the photos

Push the tray all the way in until it locks, the tray is designed for the pellets to fire on the flat part of the tray and not down in the deep part of the tray. The deep part is designed to catch the ash after your cook when removed for cleaning.

OK, I sent pic's and talked to several different people about the tray and none of them said anything about what you just said. It is very hard to get it in to the can, any suggestions on getting it to go in and out easier

Did you look at what skilletface was Sayin about the thin piece of metal?

Skilletface, you're the man. PIT BOSS needs to put you on salary. I assumed it would need to fire in the deep part of the ashtray. It is still hard to slide in and out, but hopefully that will get better with use.

Glad you got it figured out 🇱🇷🇱🇷

They told me it would get easier to pull out ash tray on my KC Pit with more use, but I feel at times it gets tougher. I feel like the ash makes it grittier and if any unburned pellets are in the way you have to pull harder. When I take of grills and charbroil heat shield off I can see I’m putting a lot of stress on burn pot box, I have to see where the tray is while sliding in and use both my hands to slide ash tray back in. Has anyone contacted pit boss of a modified ash try, because they sent me a new ash tray and it the same issue.
